MAYA'S FRIENDS

For this project I designed a user-friendly website for a dog grooming service. My aim was to ensure that users could easily understand the grooming process, view prices transparently and seamlessly book appointments through an integrated calendar feature.

User Testing

Problems

Complex navigation and unclear grooming process information led to confusion and potential abandonment of the site.

Users were reluctant to book services without knowing the cost in advance due to a hidden pricing structure.

Many users were discouraged by the fact that the only booking option was by phone.

Proposed Solutions

I simplified the website navigation and created a dedicated section with visuals and descriptions of each grooming step.

I introduced a pricing section on the homepage and service pages to ensure users could quickly access and understand the cost of services.

I designed a calendar-based booking system that allowed users to select available slots with just a few clicks. The form was simplified to improve the overall experience.

Research

I conducted interviews and surveys with pet owners to understand their expectations and frustrations when booking grooming services online. Key findings included the importance of price transparency and ease of booking. I analysed competitor dog grooming websites, noting common design patterns and features that worked well, such as clear pricing and streamlined booking systems. This gave me a benchmark for improving the user experience of my design. I conducted usability testing with a prototype to observe how users interacted with the grooming process information and booking system. This helped to identify pain points and refine the design.

Findings

1. Increased engagement with grooming information
After simplifying the navigation and clearly presenting the grooming steps, 85% of users could easily locate and understand the grooming process, reducing user confusion.

2. Improved booking completion rate
By making the pricing upfront and streamlining the booking system, the booking completion rate increased by 30%. Users appreciated the calendar-based system, which made scheduling appointments faster and easier.

3. Higher user satisfaction
Survey feedback post-launch showed a 40% increase in user satisfaction, with many users highlighting the ease of use and clarity of the information as major improvements.

4. Reduced customer support inquiries
With the grooming process and pricing clearly displayed on the website, customer support inquiries regarding service details and costs dropped by 25%. This indicated that users were able to find the information they needed without seeking external assistance.

5. Enhanced mobile experience
During usability testing, mobile users reported a smoother and more intuitive experience, leading to a 20% increase in mobile appointment bookings. This was due to optimizing the interface for mobile devices, ensuring quick access to the pricing and booking features.

Transparent pricing and a simpler booking process led to a 30% increase in bookings

Developing Empathy with the users

To ensure the success of the dog grooming services website redesign, I conducted in-depth research, including user interviews, surveys, competitive analysis and usability testing. These methods provided valuable insights into user behaviour, preferences and pain points. The research guided key design decisions, resulting in a user-friendly site that improved booking rates, reduced customer support calls and increased overall satisfaction.

  • Users want clear, simple pricing and booking processes
  • Competitor sites showed that transparency and simple navigation were best practice
  • Testing showed that a clear booking system was needed
  • Many users were booking via mobile, so design changes were made to improve it

Competitive Analysis

The competitive analysis highlights key insights from four major competitors in the pet grooming industry. Each competitor offers unique strengths such as convenience, personalised services and flexible scheduling. However, they also have weaknesses such as inconsistent service quality, limited personalisation and higher prices. By understanding these competitors, the pet grooming site can differentiate itself by focusing on offering affordable prices, a personalised customer experience and convenient mobile grooming options, while maintaining an easy-to-use online platform that addresses specific customer pain points.

Feature Prioritization

Priority features include an easy-to-use online booking system for convenience, transparent pricing to appeal to cost-conscious customers and personalised grooming options to appeal to pet lovers. By prioritising these elements, the site aims to provide an exceptional user experience that balances affordability, accessibility and quality care, ensuring the site meets the core needs of its diverse customer base.

Information Architecture

Identify patterns through sketching

Quick sketches are a fundamental step in the design process, allowing you to quickly visualise ideas and layout options. These sketches provide a rough but effective blueprint for the structure and user flow of the pet grooming site. By focusing on the layout of key elements such as the online booking interface, service descriptions and pricing sections, the sketches help to refine the overall user experience at an early stage. This quick, iterative approach allows for quick adjustments based on feedback, ensuring that the final design is both user-centric and efficient.

Clarifying Visual Design

The pet care site's visual design is warm and approachable. The colour palette will evoke trust and comfort with soft, friendly tones. Clean, modern typography and pet-themed icons and imagery will ensure readability and a strong emotional connection. The UI kit includes essential design components, all aligned with the brand's visual identity. Each component is designed for ease of use, with a mobile-first approach. The UI kit ensures consistency across the site, enhancing the user experience.

High Fidelity Prototype

The wireframes and prototype represent the final pet grooming website design. These wireframes show the detailed layout, visual elements and user flows, including the online booking system, service listings and user dashboards. The Hi-Fi prototype lets stakeholders try out the site's features, including grooming service selection, appointment scheduling and profile management. The prototype integrates the booking form with Google Calendar, simplifying scheduling for users and administrators. Customers can add appointments directly to their calendars, while administrators can manage bookings seamlessly, reducing scheduling conflicts and improving efficiency. This integration ensures a smooth experience for busy users.

Usability Testing

Usability testing was a crucial stage in validating the design and functionality of the pet care site. During this stage we gathered feedback from real users to assess how intuitive and easy to use the site was, with a particular focus on the booking process, service selection and overall navigation. Test participants representing key personas such as Emily (busy pet parent), Mike (doting pet enthusiast) and Sarah (cost-conscious pet owner) interacted with the high-fidelity prototype to complete common tasks such as booking a grooming appointment and exploring service packages.

Key findings from the usability tests helped refine the site by:

  • Improving navigation: Simplify the user journey to make it easier to find key services and schedule appointments.
  • Optimizing the booking form: Ensure the integrated Google Calendar feature works seamlessly, allowing users to quickly book and track appointments while streamlining administrative management.
  • Enhancing visual clarity: Adjust button placement, labels and call-to-action elements to improve clarity and user interaction.

Summary

This pet grooming website offers convenience, affordability and personalised care for pet owners. From sketches to wireframes, the design prioritises an easy-to-use online booking system, transparent pricing and seamless navigation. The booking form is integrated with Google Calendar, simplifying appointment management. Through analysis, we identified ways to differentiate the site by offering affordable, high-quality grooming and emphasising convenience. Usability testing ensured the site met user needs, resulting in a streamlined and intuitive experience. The final design enhances the site's appeal and provides a solid foundation for long-term scalability and customer satisfaction.
